An examination by your local doctor will be able to work out if you need to see a specialist in regards to your condition. If there is an infection you will most likely need to get a CT Scan of your sinuses and nasal passages to work out the extent of the problem.
You may be sent to an Allergist to find out if you have any allergies that are causing the irritation and find out what can be done to help to ease the signs and symptoms.
Your doctor may also refer you to see and ENT (Ear Nose and Throat) specialist to provide further assistance for PND and let you know if it has lead to the formation of nasal polyps. From there they will be able to provide options for treating your condition.
Ways To Relieve Post Nasal Drip Symptoms
You will need to soothe and remove the irritation and inflammation that is associated with PND and some things you can do at home now include continually blowing your nose gently to remove the mucus build up, Flush your nasal passages with saline solution.
This is best done using a Neti Potti or Sinus Wash Bottle. I use the sinus wash bottle as I find the gentle force of saline solution helps to dislodge any think mucus build up deep in my sinuses. It only takes a few seconds and all is done.
Doing this a couple of times a day will help to clear out your sinus passages and the saline can help to dry up any inflammation that is there. Make sure that you drink plenty of water throughout the day as this also dilutes a lot of the mucus caused by the irritants as well.
Your physician may prescribe a sinus nasal spray like Beconase which is a steroid spray for reducing and fighting inflammation. You may need to take a course of oral steroids like Predisolone and some antibiotics if you have an infection present.
By listening to your body you will learn what is irritating your nose and sinuses and eventually be able to avoid or reduce contact with them. Doing so will help to relieve the ongoing symptoms of post nasal drip and possible nasal polyps.

Always consult with your doctor to see that the information is right for you.
